Declared by Congress in 1999, the month of May is known as National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM). This month serves as a reminder to us of the history and sacrifice we have been privileged to partake in since our nation’s birth. During this month, America gathers around its military family to recognize, honor, remember and appreciate those who have served or who are currently serving.

• If you know a serviceman or veteran, or see someone in uniform, be sure to thank them – whether it be through words or small acts of appreciation, like buying their coffee.
• Volunteer at your local VA hospital or Donate to a veteran or military charity. (Military Benefits provides a list on top-rated charities whose main purpose is to support veterans, military, and their families.)
• Send a care package to a soldier.
• Reach out to a veteran or family in need.
