While COVID-19 brought many uncertainties to our world and supply chain this year, The Shippers Group persevered through our hardest challenge yet-to-date and experienced growth throughout the challenging circumstances. In 2020 alone, The Shippers Group was awarded dozens of new contracts from both new customers and several existing customers looking to expand with us. Within this number were three new distribution centers that The Shippers Group opened. President Rob Doyle stated, “Our ability to manage these high volumes is credited to the fact that we have really zeroed in on sustainable and robust start-up processes.” He continued on to say, “Organic growth is one of the cornerstones for our continued profitable growth and two of our three start-ups during the pandemic have been from existing customers, which aligns with our strategic plan and allows us to showcase our operations prowess in uncertain times.”
Orlando, FL Distribution Center
In early March, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Shippers Group expanded its national footprint and opened a warehouse facility in the state of Florida. Located just minutes outside of the city, the Distribution Center known as “Sand Lake” services route sales in the Orlando, Florida area. Built in 2020, the building is just over 58,000 square feet and is a dedicated food grade warehouse and retail distribution facility for one of our long-term existing customers.
Mesquite, TX Distribution Center
Following the Orlando start-up, in mid-July, The Shippers Group opened another 122,000 square feet of space in the Dallas area. This facility brought the total number of distribution operations to seven in Texas with an opening of an 8th operation underway and scheduled for early Q4. The new center is located in Mesquite, Texas and offers 70,000 square feet of public warehousing space for new and growing customers.
Houston, TX Distribution Center
Later in the year, The Shippers Group opened the Houston Distribution Center in October. The facility is just over 70,000 square feet and is a dedicated food grade warehouse and retail distribution facility. Running 7-days a week, it is our third location for one of our long-term existing customers. It is a multifaceted picking operation, including piece and case pick, that utilizes voice pick and pick to light systems. The site services 110 route sales to retail sales customers in the Northern Houston area.
With now 15 locations and 6.3 million square feet of multi-client and dedicated 3PL warehouse space, The Shippers Group continues to stay poised for growth. As we prepare for 2021, an additional location in the Dallas area is underway for a customer expansion. Keeping pace with dynamic supply chains, The Shippers Group continues to focus on our core values, as they are what accelerates our growth and keeps our relationships strong both internally and externally.
