The Shippers Group Promotes American Heart Health Month

Posted by Margaret Harvey on Feb 4, 2022

February is American Heart Month, a month dedicated to motivating Americans to adopt healthy lifestyles to prevent heart disease. As the leading cause of death in the United States, it's important to take steps to protect your heart from heart disease. That is why The Shippers Group is taking the time to educate our associates throughout the month of February on ways to maintain their heart health.

As part of our effort to educate and raise awareness about the importance of heart health, The Shippers Group associates are wearing red today—Friday, February 4, 2022—for National Wear Red Day. Celebrated every year during the first Friday of February, National Wear Red Day increases awareness of the risks that heart disease can pose, and encourages other to know their risks and take action to protect their hearts.

About Heart Health

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in America, but there are several actions you can take to help in preventing it. Research shows that self-care can help you keep your blood pressure in a healthy range and reduce your risk for heart disease. You can improve and protect your health overall when you:

  • Get at least 2.5 hours of physical activity each week
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Eat a nutritious diet
  • Quit smoking
  • Reduce and manage stress
  • Get 7-8 hours of quality sleep
  • Track your heart health by routinely getting your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels checked

Self-care includes being patient with your body. You may not see or feel the results of your efforts right away. However, small steps can lead to big progress. When we take care of #OurHearts as part of our self-care, we set an example for others to do the same. Visit HeartTruth.gov for resources and tools to help you and your loved ones make heart-healthy lifestyle changes.
