Corporate associates at The Shippers Group expressed their gratitude for the recent opportunity to give back to the community. Serving at the North Texas Food Bank in Plano, associates formed an assembly line, and worked together as a team to pack 9,312 meals for local seniors served by NTFB. Through the food bank's Commodity Supplemental Feeding Program, thousands of seniors who struggle with food insecurity are served each month. Many of those seniors living on fixed incomes are faced with the challenge of choosing between nutritious food, or paying for their medication or utilities. Each food box contains approximately 28 pounds of shelf-stable staples, and is distributed monthly.
Diane Villifana, VP of Human Resources-Safety Compliance at TSG, shared about the importance of this volunteer effort: “We are happy that we can help NTFB provide meals throughout the region. It’s a fantastic way for The Shippers Group to expand the scope of our work in the food industry while giving back to our communities.” The Shippers Group provides logistics and supply chain services to the food and CPG industries.
The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is a top-ranked nonprofit relief organization, providing access to more than 200,000 meals each day for hungry children, seniors and families across a 13-county service area. In the last fiscal year, NTFB and their feeding network provided access to nearly 77 million meals. The need for hunger relief in North Texas is much larger; to combat increasing food insecurity in North Texas, the Food Bank recently launched a 10-year plan to provide access to 92 million nutritious meals annually by 2025. NTFB is a member of Feeding America, a national hunger relief organization.
Thank you, North Texas Food Bank, for allowing The Shippers Group to participate in your honorable and meaningful mission of serving those in need.
