Women’s Equality Day, celebrated every year on August 26th, commemorates the passage of women’s suffrage in the United States. On this day we are reminded of the hurdles overcome by the heroic women who faced violence and discrimination to propel the women’s movement forward.
The pandemic has weighed heavily on working women yet supply chain leaders have managed to maintain and even advance representation of women in their organization. According to Gartner’s 2022 Women in Supply Chain, the survey shows that the percentages of women at first-line managers/supervisor, senior manager and director levels have increased since 2021. That being said, supply chain still continues to have a problem pulling women up to senior level ranking, with women only occupying 21% of supply chain’s vice president and senior director-level positions.
Women’s Equality Day is a day of great significance at The Shippers Group as it aligns with our commitment to being the most diverse and inclusive 3PL partner. Not only do we ensure inclusive hiring strategies, but also in creating an environment that is focused on retaining our valued associates. We do this through an employee-centric culture, by providing equal and competitive compensation, and by providing ample advancement opportunities for our associates. With a heavy emphasis on promoting within, we provide training, like the Emerging Leaders Program, to prepare our associates, both men and women, for future growth to ensure they succeed in their advancing roles.
These efforts have allowed us to grow our number of women in management positions by 70% over the past few years. In addition, women now make up 45% of our Executive Committee. Having a diverse team, made up of both women and men, enables us to drive innovation and company growth, and create positive change. While there are still gaps to be closed, The Shippers Group remains committed to these efforts and supporting women in supply chain because together, we make The Shippers Group the best it can be, as a company, as an employer, and as a supply chain partner.
