Although COVID-19 has had a significant impact on our daily lives, fundamentals of nourishing the world have not changed.  As consumers began to panic buy at the onset of shelter-in-place orders, the significance of logistics and supply chain were elevated.  Today people have a much better understanding of the importance of protecting the food supply chain.  Let’s take a look at what’s changed, the impact and what the future holds for food manufacturers and their 3PL warehousing partners.

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the federal government issued multiple executive orders and emergency notices, most of which refer to “essential workers.” The President also issued the Coronavirus Guidance for America, declaring certain operations, such as food supply, a critical infrastructure industry in which we had a social responsibility to maintain our normal work schedule.

When you think back over the last three months, doesn’t it just blow your mind?  What an incredible journey it’s been.  Prior to March, social distancing was unheard of, few had ever experienced a shelter-in-place decree and most would ask, “what is PPE”?  Three months later these are engrained in our daily lives.  We’re at war with a silent and deadly enemy.  Sadly, COVID-19 deaths are approaching almost half a million people worldwide with over 100,000 in the United States alone.
