Food distribution warehouses are a critical link in the food supply chain, and operators of food distribution warehouses are responsible for helping protect the safety of food distributed to the general public. This requires following Food and Drug Administration’s guidelines as outlined in the Food Safety Modernization Act. FSMA was enacted to ensure safety practices of food manufacturing facilities, food warehouses and other food-handling facilities. 

Training on a variety of food safety topics in the warehouse is essential for compliance and employee safety.  The Shippers Group trains on numerous important food safety topics. 

Annual safety training at The Shippers Group is designed to supplement our routine training program and enhance focus on safety. Diane Villafana, VP of Human Resources commented, "because safety is our number one priority, and one of our core values, we are driving to exceed the minimum standards to ensure the health and safety of our associates." Each year in February, we spend the entire month focused on safety topics and training.

On January 30, 2020 we blogged about Four Ways the Slowing Economy is Impacting the Third-Party (3PL) Warehousing industry. Our focus at the time was more on trade and political tensions with China and disruptions caused by Brexit. We had also seen a trend toward slower consumer spending. Although we mentioned Coronavirus, we really did not imagine what was about to happen in the U.S. and across the globe. By March 20^th, the country was on lockdown. Already in a recession, who knew the impact COVID was going to have on the U.S. Economy?
