This week was Truck Driver Appreciation Week – a week where we come together to pay respect and thank professional Truck Drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs. These 3.6 million professional men and women not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time, but they also keep our highways safe.

Women’s Equality Day, celebrated every year on August 26^th, commemorates the passage of women’s suffrage in the United States. On this day we are reminded of the hurdles overcome by the heroic women who faced violence and discrimination to propel the women’s movement forward.

The pandemic has weighed heavily on working women yet supply chain leaders have managed to maintain and even advance representation of women in their organization. According to Gartner’s 2022 Women in Supply Chain, the survey shows that the percentages of women at first-line managers/supervisor, senior manager and director levels have increased since 2021. That being said, supply chain still continues to have a problem pulling women up to senior level ranking, with women only occupying 21% of supply chain’s vice president and senior director-level positions.

On August 17^th, National Nonprofit Day recognizes the goals and positive impacts nonprofits have on communities and the world. Awareness, research, and aid are able to reach the people around the world who need it because of the work nonprofits do. Therefore, it is so important to support our nonprofits through various efforts such as volunteering, donating, and helping raise funds.

The Shippers Group recognizes this importance, which is why we created our Shippers Gives Back program – our commitment to give charitably through a variety of efforts that help the underprivileged and build relationships within our communities. In conjunction with our Give Back program and National Nonprofit Day, a few members of our team in Atlanta spent Wednesday morning sorting through donated books at Books For Africa. Their efforts not only helped to make sure these books reached Africa, but also reach the right demographics within their communities.

National Hire a Veteran Day is observed every year on July 25^th and encourages employers to consider veterans in their employment and hiring strategies. This day provides awareness and serves as a platform to show that our veterans are qualified and trained and looking for jobs.

Creating and filling opportunities to employ veterans is an important part of our hiring strategy here at The Shippers Group. As our President, Rob Doyle, is a veteran himself, this was an initiative that has been given much focus since his joining of the company. Rob, along with the Shippers’ team, recognized the need to help our veterans successfully transition to the civilian workforce.

National Day of the Cowboy hits home for The Shippers Group, as our 121-year-old company was built upon a foundation of the Cowboy code of Ethics. A cowboy represents the best of the American workforce, having the characteristics of optimism, courage, and hard work. Characteristics which our team proudly displays each and every day.
