National Hire a Veteran Day encourages employers to consider veterans in their employment strategies and to fill their open positions. This day provides awareness and serves as a platform to show that our veterans are qualified and trained and looking for jobs within the civilian workforce.

The Shippers Group is excited to announce the recent hire of Alex Whiteley in our Corporate Office as Industrial Engineer.

With a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University-Commerce, Alex was brought on to enhance productivity, maximize throughput, and ensure workplace safety. Her previous experience includes positions as a Manufacturing Data Engineer and Sr. Support and Operational Efficiencies Administrator. Alex holds a Six Sigma Green Belt certification and has led Lean Six Sigma projects to reduce variances by 65%. She also coordinated a yearlong project to implement Lean Six Sigma methodologies in the replenishment process, including cost analysis labor considerations and storage optimization.

Alex resides just outside the Dallas area with her loving husband and their two pet hedgehogs. During her free time, she enjoys gardening and embroidery. Alex also has a passion for volunteering and participates in a few different weekend events throughout the year – the largest of which is set in Dallas with over 30,000 people in attendance.

President Rob Doyle stated, “We are excited to have Alex join our team as the role she has taken aligns with our efforts to stay focused on quality and continuous improvement. Alex will be instrumental in keeping us true to our core values as the various projects she will be working on relate to a few of our core values in specific: safety, excellence, and innovation.”

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the federal government issued multiple executive orders and emergency notices, most of which refer to “essential workers.” The President also issued the Coronavirus Guidance for America, declaring certain operations, such as food supply, a critical infrastructure industry in which we had a social responsibility to maintain our normal work schedule.

While COVID-19 brought many uncertainties to our world and supply chain, The Shippers Group persevered through our hardest challenge yet and experienced growth throughout all odds. Over the last three months, The Shippers Group has been awarded several new contracts for new and existing customers. We have also launched numerous contracts during this time period – one of which includes the launch of our newest Distribution Center in Orlando, Florida.

"Our ability to manage these high volumes is credited to the fact that we have really zeroed in on a sustainable and robust start-up process," shared Rob Doyle, President. "That allows us to handle multiple facility openings at the same time and our team is always up for the challenge, which is allowing us to open up four new operations between December of last year and July of this year."

In early March, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Shippers Group opened our newest warehouse facility in the state of Florida. When our customer, a world leader in convenient foods and beverages, came to us with a potential synergy, we jumped on the opportunity to grow our relationship and expand our national footprint.

Located just minutes outside of the city, the Distribution Center known as “Sand Lake” services route sales in the Orlando, Florida area. Built in 2020, the building is just over 58,000 square feet and is a dedicated food grade warehouse and retail distribution facility for one of our long-term existing customers.
