Throughout the month of March, The Shippers Group is celebrating National Women's History Month by asking our associates about the importance of recognizing women who have played a pivotal or inspiring role in their lives. Today Maria Salazar, Warehouse Supervisor at TSG’s Wintergreen facility shares about a woman she calls her hero – her mom.

A recent ceremony was held at our Headquarters location in Hutchins, TX to congratulate Maria Nunez on being awarded The Shippers Group’s “Office Associate of the Year” for 2019.

Presenting the award was President, Rob Doyle, and V.P. of Human Resources, Diane Villafana. With Maria’s award, Diane commented: “In her CSR role she has been applauded by our customers for her outstanding service and being calm under pressure. Her coworkers know she can be counted on with help, especially navigating the system with experience. Maria always has a friendly face, she’s fun to speak with, and Shippers knows she can be counted on in her role."

Scott Goolsby was recently awarded The Shippers Group’s “Warehouse Associate of the Year” for 2019 during a surprise luncheon at our Austell, Georgia facility. Every month we choose a Warehouse Associate of the Month, and from those monthly winners, owners Ken Johnson and Graham Swank, along with our President, Rob Doyle, choose the associate who displayed the overall best work ethic, safety, production, and attitude.

Congratulations to J.T. Schaffer who recently opened the 12^th facility for The Shippers Group in Grand Prairie, Texas in his new role as Sr. Operations Manager.  J.T. has lead the Grand Lakes-2 team to a successful start-up of the facility within a much-shorter-than-usual timeline. Schaffer came to Shippers Warehouse in 2013 as part of a 3 year training program working in all Texas locations and in Illinois for the company. During this time, he worked in various roles including inventory control, picking, loading and supervision.  Upon completion of the training program in 2016, J.T. was promoted to Operations Manager at The Shippers Group’s Wintergreen facility in Hutchins, Texas just south of Dallas. 

What is for certain is there is abundant uncertainty regarding the economic forecast for 2020. The growth rate of real GDP is expected to be less than 2019. According to a recent article examining the U.S. economy's future trends, one-third of economists surveyed in Q3-2019 forecast recession in 2020 with another 30% predicting recession well into 2021. Based on this information, it is safe to say we are in the midst of a slow-down that is likely to continue for the next 12-24 months.
